Johnson Town in Iruma, Saitama

Want to find a piece of America ? Head over to ‘Johnson Town’ which is a small neighborhood tucked away in Iruma, Saitama. Located 20-30 km north of central Tokyo. Here, you can find original American-style homes built to house the US Forces during the Korean war in the early 1950’s.

It is a privately owned residential area that houses the creative types, such as musicians, photographers, designers, authors, etc. Some have converted their homes into studios, cafes & shops.

It is a 40 minute ride on the Seibu Ikebukuro line from Ikebukuro station to Irumashi station. Johnson Town is about a 20 minute walk from the station.

And that is where we came across this wonderful Tofu restaurant which serves reasonable & delicious set meals consisting of various Tofu dishes. The subtle, delicate & refined dishes are a paradise for Tofu lovers !

Johnson Town has a pretty laid back atmosphere so, I would recommend arriving there in the afternoon since things come to life after lunch !

Here is a You tube video which will give you a fair idea of what Johnson town looks like.
